Installed PB 6.5 Ent., PowerJ, Jaguar CTS, Power Site, Power Dynamo (personal
web server / port 8081), Microsoft IIS on port 8080, O'Reilly Website port 80.
It's a dual-boot machine with NT Server(backoffice) and Win98. I do all
development through NT Server.

I have carefully went throgh the steps listed in chpt 2 which should allow me
to run the IT examples (copied pbcgi60.exe to cgi-shl directory, copied files
from examples directory to htdocs directory, configured odbc for both db's,
added webpb.pbl to example_server_app library list.) However, when I run the
app (example_server_app) it successfully opens both psdemo.db and webpb.db but
then fails. I get the "Server Listen Error" error message box. When I run it
through debug I notice the listen() is returning a value of 52 to
li_ListenReturnCode.

What have I tried?
- verified none of the three web servers is on the same port.
- the services file (both NT and Win9smilie contain the line pb_net_examples
10098/tcp and that that port number is unique within the services file.
- also tried changing the port number in the services file to 10099.
- searched all drives to make sure there isn't a third services file which
could already be using the port.
-I've tried running the app with the Website web server already running, and
with it not running.

This is driving me insane because I had this all working about three months
ago, but just got a new pc and am trying to get everything set up.

Uncle!!! I'm out of ideas, do you have any?

Thanks in advance,
Troy Johnson

Re: Server Listen Error

Problem was solved by avoiding services file all together. This was done by
explicitly naming tcp/ip port in transport object. This doesn't explain why
it wouldn't work with service file.

Then I started getting an error saying http error 404 method not allowed check
to make sure proper mime type is setup for resource you're using. By gong
into website/cgi_shl folder properties and making the folder a sharred
resource I got by this error.

Now I get the error message from the PBWEB.INI file (error pbwebRunRequest
failed to connect. I'm usin ie5 as my browser and am working off line. I
noticed a similar problem in a previou thread which was solved by going into
website properties and changing name from ip adress (127.0.0.1) to
http://localhost. I tried this but it still doesn't work.

Also, when I try to open any of the pages in cgi_shl from netscape, I get file
not found. They are found from ie5 though???

Any help with either of these problems would be greatly appreciated. I'm
getting anxious to progress through this book but can't until I know i'm set
up correctly.
