It seems shigeoka.com is no loger up but
nevertheless, when I telnet into jabber.org 5222 and paste in a stream tag i
get bumped off the host connection. Any one know why this might occur?

Nevermind, the timeout on the server was faster than I could type.

smilie I know how that goes. Cut and paste is your best friend when it comes to
being a human Jabber client. smilie Once you get past the initial login you have a
lot more time before you get booted for being idl and so can type
interactively. If you use plain auth, you can write all the XML you need to
login into notepad and then just cut and paste the entire <stream> and login
<iq> stuff into telnet. Then you can leisurely type your <presence/>, hack on
<message>, inspect <iq>, etc.

You may also want to check Exodus on JabberStudio.org. One of the menu options
is to show debug XML. This is especially handy because you can type in
arbitrary XML that gets sent to the server. So you can have Exodus log you in,
then interactievly type XML for the rest of the session.
