"Error 500: Internal Error" Loading a Servlet Included in a Java Package (jar
file) on Domino 4.6x

Problem:

Using a web browser, you attempt to open a servlet in a package archive file
(a jar file) located in the servlets directory; however, the following error
displays:

"Error 500: Internal error."

Solution:

This error will occur if the servlet environment for servlets in a package jar
file has not been set up. To set up the servlet environment for servlets in a
package jar file, follow these steps:

1. Copy the jar file in the servlet directory.

2. Add the jar file to the NOTES.INI file's environment variable
JavaUserClasses. For instance, your JavaUserClasses variable could be:

:JavaUserClasses=c:
otesdatadominoservlet;c:
otesdatadominoservletpackage.jar

3. Add the servlet definition and parameter to the file Servlet.cnf . For
example :

Servlet MyPackage.MyServlet {
}
Service MyPackage.MyServlet /Servlet/MyServlet

You can then open the servlet in a web browser simply using the following URL:

http://hostname/servlet/MyServlet
