I think that's a bit brave of you reading my book as your first Perl book - it
was intended as a second or third Perl book. You'd probably be better off with
"Learning Perl" by Randal Schwartz and Tom Christiansen.

As for where you can learn Perl for free, you might get links to tutorial web
pages from <http://www.perl.com>. Or you could try Brad Kuhn's GPL'd Perl
book, Picking Up Perl, which is at <http://www.ebb.org/PickingUpPerl/>.
