Dear all,

I am developing a 3D Stock chart, I want to have a tooltip showing the data
values when the mouse point over a point in the chart. Any comments and sample
code on this issue? I know there is a sample in ch.20 of the book, but it
includes many other feedback elements. Can somebody point out which class I
need to use if I just want to display a tooltip in a 3D Stock chart.

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,
Timmy Tong

When dealing with tooltips you have to decide the characteristics that your
application requires of them. Does it need to be constant size, always in
front, display facing, image based, etc.? If the answer to most of these
questions is no then you can get by with something pretty simple like 3D text.
If the answers are mostly yes then it may be worthwhile to take a closer look
at how the tooltip in PerfectOverlaying example (chapter 21) is built and used
(be sure to use the latest version of the code, which does away with the
ChangePoster workaround for earlier j3d bugs). Because of the highly modular
nature of the code you should (hopefully) be able to develop your own tooltip
class that does just what you want it to do and no more.

good luck
