Hi Jon,

I like your book.

Could you elaborate a bit on the bug in J3D 1.2 that
causes elements of the scene to disappear randomly
in DnDApp. Do you know what's causing it?
Are there fixes, workarounds (apart from using 1.1) ?

Thanks,

Tobias

I sent this and the FancyApp example to Kelvin Chung at Sun, and he confirmed
that it was a bug, and has posted it as such. It seems to occur when nodes
are added or removed from the scenegraph. He did not elaborate as to why it
happens, and I don't know of a workaround. J3D 1.2.1 is due out in mid-Oct,
perhaps that will fix this bug since it seems so basic.

Hi Jon,

Your book is execellent! I've been looking for a Java 3D UI book like it for a
long time.

Any followup on this issue? Do you have a bug report number? I seem to be
getting similar results with my NVida GeForce Ultra Card.

Thanks,

Chris

Glad you are finding the book useful. I haven't been keeping up with the bug.
Below is the email I got from Kelvin with the bug number.

Hi Jon,

I can reproduce the problem in my solaris machine.

Bug 4366359 - Objects incorrectly rendered when adding/deleting from the
scenegraph

is filed for this.

Thanks for your bug report.
