Well...it sorta is. It needs to be a bean in the Spring application context or else I can't inject it anywhere I'd use it. But, for sure, proper use of @ConfigurationProperties could make it unnecessary. I'll revisit the example and see if it's necessary in the current form. I believe it is, but will show how to get rid of it in chapter 5.

Chapter 5?
I have MEAP acces and I can only see 3 chapters.
Even after the Nov 3rd update, still only first 3 chapters
