Hi Claus and Jonathan,
Do you have an idea about the next MEAP release date?
To be honest, I can't wait reading about the chapters 7 (microservices) and 10 (REST).

Hi

Yeah I had a break from writing for about 6 or more weeks - which you sometime need as writing is a tough process.

I am working on the rest/ws chapter which will be done in this quarter and thus in the next MEAP.
Jonathan is working on chapter 2.

The microservices chapter is a bit out there, with a battle between this or the testing chapter to be my next target.

I'm using Camel in a Spring Boot service, now I need to be able to receive an HTTP REST request in a camel flow with a JSON object, process some stuff in components and then send back another JSON object as a response.

Is there some sample project or anywhere to do that?

I know that's what this chapter is gonna be about, but right now I need somewhere to start, as this is a work assignment I have, and I don't know where to begin.

Thanks!

next MEAP release--->More blueprint and less Spring
Hi Claus,
Thank you for this reply,
I would like to make a request, if possible.
I've tested almost all the example from the first MEAP chapters. The only thing that I regret is the fact that there is too much spring (almost all non dsl example).
I would be cool if you could write examples with more blueprint and less Spring.
Thank you,
Meissa SAKHO

Yeah its being covered in chapter 10 about rest, and also in the microservices chapter where spring-boot is part.

Its sorta depend on what stick end you chose. Spring-boot has its rest / mvc controller you can use in a spring-boot and then call Camel from spring/java code if needed. Or you can use camel-spring-boot and setup a Camel route as rest with rest-dsl or a regular camel route with a rest component.

The examples are showcasing how to use the xml dsl with camel. Which are 100% the same in spring or blueprint, when it comes to what you write between the <camelContext> ... </camelContext> tags.

Then spring and blueprint is 95% the same, about the <bean> stuff. So its not very hard to figure out how to do a spring xml in blueprint xml.

When we have blueprint examples then its often if its a more hardcore issue such as transactions or rest or security where blueprint and OSGi is different to use than the rest of the world.

So there was a new MEAP release recently which included chapter 1.

Chapter 10 missed the deadline but I have completed it now and it should be in the next MEAP.
I started on the testing chapter, and Jonathan is on chapter 2.

MEAP update 9 is out now which includes two new chapters:

What's new?

Chapter 9, "Testing"
Chapter 19, "Camel Tooling"

We have two new chapters for you! Chapter 9 covers the Camel test-kit and how to start doing Camel testing with different runtime platforms. Chapter 19 talks you through some of the most powerful and known Camel tools that you can find on the internet. These chapters will help you expand your knowledge and delve deeper into the world of Camel.

Please make sure IoT topic included here with some insight into cloud based computing and integration. I find it is hard to get information about protocols like MQTT and details around how to use them with camel even in Stackoverflow. The official doc is very primitive and have no descriptions about using Secure connections(SSL) and how to use Protocol buffers . Please make sure this topic addressed in the next release.

Jonathan and I have handed in chapters 7 and 15. And done revisions on a number of other chapters.

Manning told us that a new MEAP will be released this week with the changes.

Some of the chapters are going to pre-production. We only have 3 chapters left to write

- Camel and cloud, containers, cluster (need a good title)
- Reactive Camel and Funktion Lambda style (new)
- Camel and IoT (Henryk as guest author)

The MEAP has a mistake where the chapter is cutoff to soon. The original document covers it.

MEAP v13 was recently published.

Since then we have completed chapter 18 about Camel and containers with Docker and Kubernetes.
We are now working on some improvements to chapter 17.

And the IoT chapter is being reviewed and hopefully becomes completed in a couple of weeks top.

A new MEAP v14 is in the works. We have handed over the material and the MEAP letter, so its in the hands of Manning how quickly they get that done.

I was told that Manning would have the new MEAP ready this week, but it seems they don't. Sorry about that, but its out of Jonathan and mine hands, how speedy or lack of Manning are.
