One of the things that interested me about chuck is the ability to change the number of output channels. I have tried a few things with it but do not seem to be able to get it working.

My windows 8 computer is configured to be able to output in 8 channels but in miniaudicle under preferences there is no way to change the number of output channels above 2.

It does say I have 2 duplex channels but I did not find anything that talked about that so i am not sure if that is part of the problem.

This i think is the reason I get errors when trying to change the number of the .chan option.

Any suggestions on where to start? Is there some code or chuggins I need to employ? Is it a windows 8 compatibility issue?

Hi Cody,

This is a somewhat unfortunate Windows issue as (historically) ChucK has used the older DirectSound Windows audio API, which only supports stereo (2-channel) operation. We have been looking in to adding support for WASAPI and/or ASIO, which are considered more advanced than DS and do support >2 channels. I can't make any promises at this point, but we would like to have that in a future release!

Cool, thanks Spencer!

I have found a work around tho. Assigning my internal sound card and an external sound card into two individually running programs of chuck I can get two sets of left right audio and thus 4 channels. I will be experimenting more with osc in/out to see what I can do with sending my sounds to the different channels. In theory you could run any number of programs == the number of sound cards (internal and external) and get that many left right channels.

That said even running two I have gotten confused which i am using for what so one suggestion I would make is maybe having where it says miniAudicle on the top bar be able to be changed to read what ever I rename the program launcher. Similar (or exactly the same I am not sure, new to coding) to how the tab of my chuck script is whatever I have named the save file.

That would help make my chaos a little more organized.

Thanks again! I am having a lot of fun with this.
