Amdahl's law is important as part of the community lore, but it's not what actually happens - as you add more processors, the speedup doesn't stay constant as the graph shows, but rather the speedup diminishes (due to coherency-maintenance costs), which Amdahl ignored (not all that much multi-processor impact in those days!) So, you might want to introduce Gunther's Universal Scalability Model - see "Guerrilla Capacity Planning" section 4.4

You are right, we should treat this more correctly. Rather than deepening its treatment in chapter one, I will lower the level of detail there and include the full information in chapter two’s discussion of the topic; chapter one is an overall introduction after all.
