This example is pretty cool, but the code doesn't chuck 0.5 to t.gain, so it's over-driven. (I guess gain defaults to 1.0?)

Yep gain defaults to 1.0 for each UG.
In Mac and with some other hardware and sound
drivers (LINUX), you can technically go outside
+/- 1.0 and not clip, but on Windows and some
other hardware/drivers, it clips if you go anywhere
above 1. So you're right that we should normalize.
