Hi Gavin, RabbitMQ in Depth looks great so far. A few editing/proofreading notes from Chapter 1 of MEAP v2:

- At the top of page 2, "Ram" should probably be "RAM"
- In section 1.1.1, "Ericson" should be "Ericsson"
- In section 1.1.2, "And by all appearances" should probably just be "By all appearances"
- In section 1.4 under Bindings, "to not only connecting a queue" should be "to not only connect a queue"

Re: Editing/Proofreading Notes from Chapter 1 of MEAP v2
There are 29 places in the book where the word 'left' appears out of place.

Sometimes it seems the correct word would be 'center' and in other places 'right'. In other places it just seems to be dropped in there for no reason at all.

I'm keeping an eye on things smilie

I've addressed the feedback received thus far, though I'm not sure what to make of your comment, I couldn't find any specifics based upon what you said.

Cheers,

Gavin,

I should have specified that I was using the MOBI version, sorry.

I'll get the locations and post them tonight.

Re: Editing/Proofreading Notes from Chapter 1 of MEAP v2
Thanks for the detail, how very odd. I've sent this forum post to the publisher so they can check into it. If you download the PDF version you can see that this is not normal.

Re: Editing/Proofreading Notes from Chapter 1 of MEAP v2
Gavin,

I'm reading the MOBI on a Kindle DX and I manage my ebooks using Calibre portable (currently version 0.9.41).

The SHA-512 checksum for the file I downloaded from Manning matches the checksum of the one stored in the Calibre library, but the file on the Kindle is different.

Downloaded: ff887d247c4f7ed519012433b53520df3f631fe74d8fe75be20e22c03654c6a9fb5d52bbe7c1b45018b2e178fba4d8a0a80bf2898d9c2f373c490e7f2870a206
Calibre: ff887d247c4f7ed519012433b53520df3f631fe74d8fe75be20e22c03654c6a9fb5d52bbe7c1b45018b2e178fba4d8a0a80bf2898d9c2f373c490e7f2870a206
On the Kindle: 380174a2322439397656d4de16965d3d72511da5f1fd32ab08079aa92048a524fdd8e565b240290f0cce8f112c514af43fe25de1da6450ef1ba4efe0744514ec

I deleted the file from the Kindle and sent it again, but the checksum of the Kindle file remained the same.

I opened the Calibre version of the MOBI file in the built-in reader and the errant 'left's show up.

Calibre is clearly doing *something*, but it isn't inserting the 'left' text on its own.

Let me know if Manning would like the version of the file that's on the Kindle.

Re: Editing/Proofreading Notes from Chapter 1 of MEAP v2
Gavin,

MEAP v3 is an improvement, there are only two questionable 'left's this time.

One is in the seventh paragraph of the "Welcome':
Looking ahead, part 2 of the book will cover managing RabbitMQ in the data left or the cloud. And part 3 will cover integrations and customization. We expect to have updates to the book every two to three weeks, whether that is a new chapter or an update to an existing chapter.

The other is in the 'Brief Contents':
Part 2: Managing RabbitMQ in the data left or the cloud

The errant text appears in both the MOBI and EPUB files I just downloaded.

SHA-512 checksums:
