While walking through the 'Hello HBase' section in chapter one, I ran across an issue with the list command hanging on my Ubuntu system (running 11.04). This was due to the following entry in /etc/hosts

127.0.1.1 ubuntu.ubuntudomain ubuntu

After looking through the Apache HBase book (http://hbase.apache.org/book.html), I found I had to change the above entry to point to the loopback IP of 127.0.0.1. It might save others a bit of frustration and searching if you added a note in the book about this as a potential pitfall.

Re: HBase and Ubuntu
Thanks for the feedback. We'll try to write this as a known gotcha with installing on Ubuntu 11.04.
