I am about a third of the way thru the book and have been using IDLE to enter
the examples. I have an older PC with a 15-inch monitor (and I'm 4smilie. Is
there a way to select a larger font for IDLE? I saw the note for the font
change for Windows users, but I am using Linux.

Thanks in advance,
Marv

Hi Marv,

Yes, one certainly needs to take care of one's eyes!

Try the instructions in:
http://www.python.org/pipermail/idle-dev/2000-March/000000.html

What is suggested there is to add the lines:

if sys.platform[:5] == 'linux':
text['font'] = ("fixed", 12)

after the lines:
if sys.platform[:3] == 'win':
text['font'] = ("lucida console", smilie
# text['font'] = ("courier new", 10)

in the file EditorWindow.py

For an even bigger font size, try increasing 12 to 14.

I don't have Linux set up where I am right now to test this out but expect it
should work. If it doesn't, send me another response. There should be other
ways to do it (i.e. through X resources), but I would have to play around with
them a bit to come up with something.

Take care,

Daryl

Daryl,

I changed it to "fixed",16. One more excuse out the window; now I can see
what I'm doing.

Thanks,
Marv
