I just learned that if you want to let users browse reports over DMV-obtained data, and these users have no sysadm database account, it is required to have their sql server login granted the 'view server state' right by executing the following SQL statement:

GRANT VIEW SERVER STATE TO [UserLoginName]

It would have been nice to find this information in the book as well.

Hi Arno,

The latest version of the MEAP, section "1.4.1 Permissions" has a paragraph about assigning permissions to groups or users, or preferably a login for using the DMVs specifically.
