The formulae for overdispersion are crossed out with question marks.

More importantly, the concept of overdispersion is not explained adequately. If the variance of a binomial variable is n * p * (1-p) then it must be bounded above by n*(1/2)^2, so how can the variance be abnormally large?

Despite small problems of this sort, I love the book. A very valuable contribution.

Re: p. 353 Forumlae are crossed out; overdispersion needs better explanation
Hi John,

The formulas are not translating properly when turned into PDF documents from word documents. The publishers will fix this.

With regard to overdispersion, take a look at
http://www-m4.ma.tum.de/courses/GLM/lec5.pdf

It might answer your question.

I appreciate your comments and interest!

Sincerely,

Rob
