PostGIS 1.5 isn't out yet, but we will be covering it in the book since it will be out before the book is out and we have experimental windows binaries available at.

One of the big ticket items in it is the new geography format which stores in long lat but outputs measures in meters for geometries. Same set of geometry types as regular geometry is supported.


For those familiar with SQL Server 2008 geogrpahy, its pretty much the same idea. We'll be doing some contrast and compares in our next comparison of spatial databases and will probably include Oracle in there.
