I follow the instruction. However, I am not sure if I am doing the right way?

I source the eMotherEarth.sql into mysql database. However I fail to create the war via ant...Here is the message I got (I am using Windows 2000 as OS).

H:art_emother_servlet>ant
Buildfile: build.xml

cleanup:
[delete] Deleted 1 directory from H:art_emother_servletclasses.ant

clean:

precompile:

init:
[mkdir] Created dir: H:art_emother_servletclasses.ant

javacompile:

Re: ant problem with build.xml please...
This problem arises from one of the directories that JBuilder likes to add to the project, to handle JSP files. Unfortunately, I failed to remove the reference in this build file. I apologize.

To fix this problem, delete line 68 from the build.xml file (the one that references "${Generated.Source}". The build file should work fine after that.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Hope you are enjoying the book.

Re: ant problem with build.xml please...
Many thanks for the reply. I do enjoy reading this book, which gives me a lot of idea and thought. I think it is a great book for me to learn and a self-study. I learn a lot from your book. Thank you very much.

Incidentally, I have solved out the problem myself instead of using Ant (from build.xml). I just copy one of the war file into my webapp directory, it works fine afterwards. However, it is good to try the build.xml again.

Fortunately, you don't have to know anything about Ant to use the build files that are included in the book. You must download (http://ant.apache.org/) and install Ant (the instructtions are straightforward). Once you have Ant installed, you can use it to build the samples, which creates a WAR file you can install into Tomcat's webapps directory.

I don't have a setup script for an Oracle database. You have two options here. 1) Change the eMotherEarth.sql script to build an Oracle database (minor changes are required) or download and install MySQL, which the samples are written to connect to.

Most of the process to build the samples is automated through Ant. Once you get it installed, it builds everything else you need (including the database if you have MySQL).
