I just installed PowerShell on my XP SP2 laptop. It seems to work fine as long as I don't try to write to a disk. As an example:

PS C:> dir >dir.txt
Unknown error "-1".
At line:1 char:6
+ dir >d <<<< ir.txt
PS C:>

Doesn't matter what directory I'm in. An equivalent command from the DOS or bash shell works fine.

I also installed PowerShell on my XP SP2 desktop and it works fine there, so I'm sure it is an environment problem on my laptop. But I don't know where to begin, and the error message is a bit less than helpful.

Can anyone tell me just what PowerShell is actually stumbling over? That might help me find the culprit on my system.

BTW, I've seen one or two other people post the same problem elsewhere, but nobody has been able to offer a solution so far.
