Please, explain in plain English what is Generic could do for me that I could not do with C++ templates? What is the major differences between generics and templates?

The biggest difference is probably that generics can be used from other .Net languages that supports generics (like C#), while C++ templates are specific to the C++ language.

So if you are writing code you intend to call from elsewhere, generics may be more suitable.
