From page 44 of the 2nd edition:

"The build and revision number can be inserted automatically by the compiler each time an assembly is created. This is done by inserting an asterisk (*) in place of one or both of these numbers."

Tried that; no joy. First, AssemblyVersion:
Error emitting 'System.Reflection.AssemblyVersionAttribute' attribute -- 'The version specified '1.0.*.*' is invalid'
Second, AssemblyFileVersion
Warning Assembly generation -- The version '1.0.*.0' specified for the 'file version' is not in the normal 'major.minor.build.revision' format

What am I doing wrong?

Re: Automatic Build and Revision numbers
I used this in my VB code without a problem:
<Assembly: AssemblyVersion("2.3.*")>
<Assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("2.3")>
