Could someone please give me some basic instructions? I have been struggling a very long time with just the basic telent example in Chapter 2, but none of the earlier post have been helpful. I am using telnet in Windows XP. Telnet has exhoing turned on.

I try the command:

open jabber.org 5222

Telnet comes up with a blank screen. I paste in the following (from p.49 of the book):
<?xml version='1.0'?> <stream:stream xmlns:stream='http://etherx.jabber.org/streams' xmlns='jabber:client' to'jabber.org'>

I imediately receive the message "Connection to Host lost"

Could someone please help me?

I found the answer to my question:

<?xml version='1.0'?> <stream:stream xmlns:stream='http://etherx.jabber.org/streams' xmlns='jabber:client' to='jabber.org'>

(i.e. I missed the equals sign after "to")
